NHS to offer counselling to divorcing couples
Divorcing couples are to be offered free counselling on the NHS in a bid to combat depression and help partners stay togther, according to a report in The Observer. The report claims that Andy Burnham, Secretary of State for Health, will announce the initiative this week so that from April 2010 a couples' counselling programmes will be launched across England in an extension of the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT). The Minister sees that "When couples hit a rocky patch, a bit of help and support can stop it spiralling out of control. Professional support can help people rebuild relationships or separate amicably."
